Our Ethos

At Wisbech St Mary Church of England Academy, we believe in the importance of personal responsibility and the need to show care and respect for others, our school, and its surroundings. Inspired by Luke 6:31, we strive to treat others as we wish to be treated, embodying the principles of good citizenship.

Our staff are committed to collaborating closely with parents, pupils, and Governors to cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and inclusion. We celebrate diversity and ensure that every child feels valued and supported.

We aim to provide a high-quality education that empowers all children to excel and prepares them for future challenges and opportunities. Our inclusive, thoughtful, and sensitive approach ensures that we support every pupil in their journey.

Our Vision: "Be the Light." (Matthew 5:14-16)

We choose Be the Light as our vision because we want to demonstrate the love of Jesus in our world through our Christian values. Jesus told us in Matthew 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world... let your light shine before all, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Jesus is the true light that shines from within us (John 8:12). We want all members of our school community to thrive and Be the Light in our world, so they make a positive difference today and in the future.

Our Values: Compassion, Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance, Excellence, and Courage

At Wisbech St Mary Church of England Academy, we believe that our school is a caring Christian community firmly founded on the values of compassion, respect, responsibility, perseverance, excellence, and courage. We reflect these values in the day-to-day running of the school, in all aspects of the curriculum, and in every area of our school life.

As a school community, we demonstrate these values in all we do:

  • COMPASSION – "Be kind and compassionate to one another and forgive each other." (Colossians 3:12)
    Showing kindness and understanding towards others, being empathetic, and supporting those in need. Children might participate in buddy systems or organise charity drives to support local food banks and shelters.
  • RESPECT – "Love each other like brothers and sisters." (1 Thessalonians 4:9)
    Valuing ourselves and others, appreciating differences, and caring for property and the world around us. Children demonstrate this by listening attentively, respecting school property, and joining community clean-up projects.
  • RESPONSIBILITY – "So each of us will have to answer to God for what we have done." (Romans 14:12)
    Taking ownership of actions, giving our best effort, and contributing positively to our community. This includes serving as class monitors, helping keep classrooms tidy, and participating in student council.
  • PERSEVERANCE – "Despite barriers we might come across, keep working hard." (James 5:11)
    Staying determined, overcoming challenges, and never giving up. Children demonstrate perseverance by improving reading skills, practising for sporting events, and supporting classmates through difficult tasks.
  • EXCELLENCE – "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart." (Colossians 3:23)
    Always striving for high standards and celebrating achievements through learning, competitions, and performances.
  • COURAGE – "Be strong and brave. Don't be afraid..." (Deuteronomy 31:6)
    Facing fears, standing up for what is right, and trying new experiences. Children may show courage by speaking out against bullying, taking on new challenges, or participating in public speaking.
